A Word from Wendy E. I searched for someone to help us when my son was diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia in third grade. We found Martha Gak which was a blessing! He completed the MTA program and saw improvements in his oral reading and reading comprehension skills, but he also gained confidence from his conversations with Ms. Gak. Her compassion and understanding of his struggles were real and heartfelt, but she was tough. She never let him think that he couldn’t do something as she was always pushing him to reach the next goal and work harder. They connected in a way that someone who doesn’t have learning disabilities can’t understand. He thoroughly enjoyed his time with her. My son is now an A/B student in the 7th grade with minimal accommodations. Thank you Ms. Gak!
Melanie's Remarks Martha Gak began working with my daughter after we received the Dyslexia diagnosis. We were unsure, scared and worried about what the future held for her. She hated school. She struggled in school. She cried about school every day. We were hopeless. Martha started working with our daughter in November of 2014. She was so worried about tutoring and how this was going to help her because she too was hopeless. She felt challenged and supported during her time with Martha. Martha understands my daughter and cares for her. She is more than a tutor. She is a friend and a confident. My daughter has gained confidence and is no longer distrusting and in fear of school. She struggles everyday because of her Dyslexia however Martha has given her the tools to succeed and feel confident, again.
Note from Natasha Happy Easter Martha ... It certainly marks a new beginning for Zak. He picked up Oliver's Minecraft novel and just stared reading (he was struggling to follow the lines so found it helpful to use this card!!!! Amazing, thank you for making this possible.
Kudos from Katie My child can spell now! Although he's a great reader, each time he tried to spell a word it was like he had never seen it before. The rote style and rules of this program made it finally sink in and now he uses these skills to spell the new words he encounters too. What a difference. Thank you Martha!
Bragging Moms ***"Rejoicing after seeing how well Addi did on her reading STAAR results! This would not have been possible if you had not poured so much into her. I can never thank you enough."-- Laura C. ***"Will got "Mastered" on the reading STAAR and scored higher than average for his entire school!" -- Brooke M. ***"Just thought I would share! Grant scored higher than the campus average on his reading STAAR!"--Amanda G.
Honorable Mention from Monica L. We are a family of readers, there are books in every room of my house. Reading is our idea of a good time. When my son began to show signs of struggle at reading and writing, I thought it was because he is a boy, more interested in being on the move than sitting down to read. However, time passed and his struggle only became worse. Not that he refused to read, but it was a very difficult thing for him to do. He would read a word at the beginning of one paragraph, and could not decipher the same word in the next. He could not read independently and he knew he was failing. And then came Martha. Her work with him has been just wonderful. I could never express how grateful we are with her and her genuine interest in helping my son. My son can now read and spell at above his grade level and he does not need me to help him read. He is also proud of himself because he is a great reader and an independent learner! Thank you so much Martha Gak!
A Comment from Christine How fortunate we were to have been introduced to Martha Gak when not one -but two of our children were diagnosed with dyslexia. The progress they made while working with her is astounding. Both are fluent readers, excelling at school and remember the “rules” they learned. I highly recommend Martha.
Joy from Joan Our daughter wanted to follow her older brother's footstep and be in the LEAP program at school. Testing her for LEAP in second grade was when we learned she was dyslexic. We did well in the MTA program for the first two years until we had a change with a new MTA teacher. The start of fourth grade there was a struggle and we needed to find more help. Our church preschool had an event for parents to learn about reading struggles. I attended, and listened to every word Martha spoke. I knew I had found our daughter's angel. Not only did our daughter do the MTA class through 7th grade, we had her tutoring with Martha weekly and through the summers. She now does refresher courses over the summer with Martha. Our daughter will be starting her freshman high school year this fall and she knows that with all the guidance and tools Martha has given her, she can confidently take the Pre-AP courses and handle the homework. Martha is the only reason our daughter has accomplished all 7 kits where as in the school district they only feel it's necessary to complete up to kit 5. It's a disservice to children with dyslexia not to be provided all the necessary tools. We encourage everyone to do the full program and do all the kits. We adore Martha and can't thank her enough for all she has done and is doing for our daughter.
Special Thanks from Stella Thanks for everything you did for Matthew. He constantly mentions your name and says it was "thanks to Martha." He passed the STAAR test and is reading at a 4th grade level and is super secure of his knowledge and he always says how smart is he! I thank God for putting you in our way in HIS perfect timing; your name will be in this house forever. Thanks for everything you do to make a difference for kids like Matt!
