Masters of Education, Southern Methodist University

I was born in Singapore, in the 70's, to Christian missionary parents.  When I was in the first grade I was diagnosed with severe dyslexia.

Arriving back into the U.S. we were fortunate to find a program developed through Scottish Rite Hospital designed to assist students with learning challenges.  As a result of the program I graduated with honors from the University of Texas and after some time in the corporate world, I decided to follow my passion and return to school at Southern Methodist University to enroll in the Academic Learning Therapy Program - the very same program I had completed as a student over 40 years ago.

I was honored to be recognized as the first student of Dr. Karen Vickery's original 1980's test group, to have completed her Academic Learning Therapy Program at SMU where I also achieved my Master’s Degree in Education.  These were accomplishments that had been impossible for me to imagine as a dyslexic kid.  I am excited about the privilege of passing on this life changing knowledge to others who are struggling.

 My Goals

As a fellow dyslexic, and now the mother of my own dyslexic child, I feel a calling to inspire children who suffer as I did.  I want to be an inspiration to other dyslexics as my dyslexia teacher, Dr. Karen Vickery, was to me.

Since I am dyslexic myself, I understand your child's frustration and can empathize with them, and hope that through me, they can see that their problem can be solved.  I can't imagine a more rewarding career than to teach others the skills that have allowed me to graduate from high school and now to have completed my Master's program.

My goal is twofold: I want to continue to assist struggling students and to teach them a revolutionary phonics program that will be with them for the rest of their lives.

My other goal is to train more teachers to reach even more students. The high demand for more dyslexia specialists is on the rise so I’ve spent the last 18 months authoring a new virtual curriculum called, “Restoring Phonics.” This program is designed to help ANYONE who loves children. This will also open opportunities for a rewarding new career working with incredibly bright students who need more from their classroom teachers.

Keep in Mind:  The earlier a discrepancy is detected, whether or not testing has been conducted, the earlier help can begin to avoid further self-esteem issue. I am available to help you answer the questions you might have on how to move forward.
Time is of the essence!
